Bobcats come back from two-set deficit, defeat Cougars in five

Brandon University's women's volleyball sets won three consecutive sets to claim a five-set victory over the Regina Cougars on Friday night in a Canada West match at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

The Cougars opened up with 25-23 and 25-19 wins in the first and second set, but it was all Bobcats from there. Brandon won the third set by a 25-20 margin, then took a 25-22 win in a hotly contested fourth set to send the match into a fifth set.

In the deciding set, Brandon won four consecutive points with Kellie Baker serving to take a 10-5 lead over the home side and the two teams traded points from there. The Bobcats ended up with a .467 hitting percentage and a 15-9 win in the fifth set to clinch their third Canada West victory of the season.

Jaryn Ruether led the Bobcats with 13 kills and 13 digs to register Brandon's lone double-double, while Meghan Robertson had 12 kills and libero Lindsay McLaughlin led all players with 18 digs. Brandon outblocked Regina by a 15-7 margin in the victory, with Larissa Vonkeman leading the way at the net with eight total blocks.

Meagan Onstad had a match-high 18 kills for the Cougars and added 14 digs for the double-double. Tiffany Herman had 50 assists and four service aces, while Michelle Sweeting had 15 kills and Roxanne Olynyk tied Onstad for the team lead with 14 digs.

Brandon improves to 3-6 with the win, while Regina falls to 2-7. The two teams will meet again on Saturday night at the CKHS following the conclusion of the men's match.
