The No. 5-ranked University of Alberta Golden Bears scored four times in the opening 20 minutes and cruised to a 6-1 win over the Regina Cougars on Friday night in a Canada West men's hockey game at The Co-operators Centre.
Kruise Reddick opened the scoring for the Golden Bears two minutes into the contest and Jordan Hickmott extended the visitors' lead to two with a goal midway through the period. Alberta then struck twice in the span of 72 seconds, as a goal by Travis Toomey was quickly followed by a power play marker by Alex Rodgers to give the Golden Bears a four-goal cushion at the first intermission.
Zack Dailey scored four minutes into the second period and Johnny Lazo capped off the Alberta scoring with a goal midway through the third.

Russ Nielsen got the Cougars on the board shortly after Lazo's goal with his second goal in as many games, but by then the damage had been done.
Real Cyr made 30 saves to secure the win for Alberta, while Regina goalie
Lucas Gore was peppered with 42 shots and stopped 36 of them as the Golden Bears held a 42-31 shot advantage in the win.
Alberta ended up 1-for-5 on the power play, while the Cougars were 0-for-4.
The two teams will meet again on Saturday night at The Co-operators Centre. Faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
