Trinity Western takes match, quarterfinal series over Cougars

The University of Regina's women's volleyball team's season ended with a 3-0 loss to Trinity Western on Friday night in the second match of a best-of-three Canada West quarterfinal series in Langley, B.C.

The Spartans opened the match with a 25-16 win in the first set. Trinity Western ended the second set with three consecutive points to take a 25-21 victory, then clinched the match with another 25-21 win in the third.

Amy Leschied ended up with a match-high 12 kills for Trinity Western, while Kara Jansen Van Doorn ended up with 10. Lauren O'Reilly had 20 assists and added 16 digs for a double-double, while Andrea Ball had 14 digs and Alicia Perrin had six kills and six blocks.

Kaitlyn Hughes had eight kills to lead the Cougars, while Tiffany Herman had 25 assists and 13 digs to secure the team's lone double-double. Meagan Onstad had seven kills, eight digs, and five blocks, while Michelle Sweeting had seven kills and tied Hughes for the team lead with a .333 hitting percentage.

Trinity Western will join UBC and the winners of the Alberta/Calgary and Brandon/Manitoba series in the Canada West Final Four next weekend at UBC.
