The University of Regina's women's volleyball team was defeated in straight sets by the No. 1-ranked UBC Thunderbirds on Friday night at the War Memorial Gym in Vancouver.

UBC opened up with a 25-18 victory in the first set, followed that up with a 25-15 win in the second, and clinched the match with a 25-16 win in the third set to improve its Canada West record to 12-3 on the season.

Jen Hinze led UBC with 10 kills and a .421 hitting percentage, while Shanice Marcelle had nine kills and led all players with 12 digs.

Michelle Sweeting had six kills and led all players with seven total blocks for the Cougars, while Meagan Onstad registered team highs in both kills (8) and digs (11).

The two teams will meet again on Saturday night in Vancouver.
