Whiffen stands tall in Cougar loss to Golden Bears

The University of Alberta completed a two-game weekend sweep over the Regina Cougars with a 4-1 win on Saturday night in a Canada West men's hockey game at Clare Drake Arena in Edmonton.

Eric Hunter, Mitch Czibere, Greg Gardner, and Derek Ryan all scored for the Golden Bears. Terrance DeLaronde notched the lone goal for the Cougars late in the third period.

Real Cyr made 12 saves to secure the win for Alberta (15-5-2). Rookie goaltender #A.J. Whiffen# made a career-high 47 saves for the Cougars, who fall to 7-15-2 with the loss.

Alberta was 1-for-9 on the power play, while the Cougars were held scoreless on their four opportunities with the man advantage.

The Cougars host Lethbridge next weekend at The Co-Operators Centre in what will be their final two home games of the 2010-11 season.
