The University of Regina's women's soccer team suffered two own goals during its 2-0 defeat to the Manitoba Bisons on Saturday afternoon in a Canada West match at the U of R Field.

The first own goal came in the 10th minute after Manitoba was awarded a corner. After Carrie Nash's corner kick, Meagan Cormier headed the ball over goalkeeper Michelle Anderson. Molly Glass attempted to clear it off the line, but her header found the back of the net and gave the visitors an early 1-0 lead.

Manitoba's second fortunate bounce came mere seconds into the second half, with Nash again at the centre of the action. The fifth-year midfielder sent in a cross from the left side intended for Jamie Lacoste which was intercepted by Regina defender Jessica Meyer, but Meyer's clearing attempt deflected high over Anderson and found the right corner of the net to put Manitoba up two.

Megan Florizone had the best chance to score for the Cougars in the second half. The second-year midfielder let go with a blast from about 25 yards out in the 58th minute, but her attempt sailed just left of the net.

Paula Fast had a glorious chance to extend the lead to three after breaking through in the 60th minute, but Anderson came out well past the 25-yard line to stymie the opportunity.

Chloe Werle made one save in the shutout for Manitoba (1-4-0), while Anderson had four saves for the Cougars. The Bisons had 12 shot attempts compared to 10 for Regina (0-4-1).

The two teams will meet again on Sunday at noon at the U of R Field.

NOTES: The win by Manitoba snapped a streak of three consecutive 1-0 wins by the Cougars over the Bisons.
