Cougars downed 4-2 by UBC in Vancouver

The University of Regina's men's hockey team lost 4-2 to the UBC Thunderbirds on Friday night in a Canada West game at the Doug Mitchell Winter Sports Centre in Vancouver.

After a scoreless opening 20 minutes, Jordan Inglis scored the first of his two goals early in the second period on an unassisted effort to give UBC the lead. Ben Schmidt scored his first of the season on the power play late in the middle from to put the Thunderbirds up two going into the second intermission.

Inglis scored again nine minutes into the third to give UBC a 3-0 advantage. The Cougars got some life late in the game with Cody Zubko's first of the season, but Scott Wasden scored for the Thunderbirds less than a minute later to ice the win for UBC.

Brett Leffler added a goal for the Cougars with a minute left to get the Cougars to within two, but it was too late to mount a comeback.

Jordan White made 28 saves between the pipes for UBC as the Thunderbirds improve to 8-7-2 and pull to within one point of Calgary for fourth place in the conference standings with the victory.

The Cougars – who got a 29-save performance from rookie Lucas Gore – fall to 4-13-2 with the loss.

The two teams will meet again on Saturday night in Vancouver.
