After opening up the conference schedule with a weekend split against Brandon, the University of Regina's women's volleyball team returns home for Friday and Saturday matches against No. 1-ranked Trinity Western.

The women's match will start at 6:00 on Friday night and will follow the men's match on Saturday.

The Cougars registered a five-set victory over Brandon last Friday night, but lost in three sets to the Bobcats on Saturday. New Hampshire transfer Desiree Ates was the story for the Cougars in Friday's win, piling up 23 kills in her first Canada West match in a U of R uniform. Ates – who added 12 digs for the double-double on Friday – also had nine kills on Saturday and holds the early conference lead with 32 kills on the season.

Meagan Lane dished out 60 assists on Friday, while Michelle Sweeting (16 kills) and Tori Glynn (11 kills, seven digs) also had strong matches in the victory. Chelsea Ziolkowski, Trisha Dobson, and libero Megan Semeniuk round out the starting lineup for the Cougars, while Lindsay Braul and Shelby Hack both appeared in their first two matches in U of R uniforms against the Bobcats.

Trinity Western also opened the Canada West schedule with a weekend split. The Spartans suffered a three-set loss at No. 2-ranked UBC on Friday, but recovered for a four-set home win on Saturday.

Outside hitters Royale Richardson and Amy Ott lead Trinity Western's offence, combining for over half of the Spartans' total attacks last weekend. Ott had 19 kills on 56 attacks, while Richardson collected 16 kills on 67 attacks.

Third-year setter Kelci French controls Trinity Western's offence, while Nicole Bazin leads the Spartans with 10 total blocks and libero Kristen Moncks has a team-high 25 digs.

After this weekend, the Cougars will prepare for two road matches against No. 3 Alberta.
