The University of Regina's women's volleyball team was defeated in straight sets by No. 3-ranked Alberta on Friday night at the Saville Community Sports Centre in Edmonton.
The Cougars led by two points after the media timeout in the first set, but Alberta finished strong. The Pandas reeled off five straight points to take a 20-17 lead, and after two Cougar points brought the score to within one Alberta took five of the set's final six points to grab the early lead with a 25-20 win in the first.
The second and third were less contested, as Alberta led from start to finish and won 25-17 in both sets to clinch a three-set victory.
Kacey Otto led Alberta with six kills as 13 different Pandas players saw action in the win. Jaki Ellis and Alyssa Jones split the setting duties, while Amy Kowalchuk had a match-leading five blocks for Alberta (3-2).
Michelle Sweeting led the Cougars in kills (9), hitting percentage (.438), and total blocks (4).
Chelsea Ziolkowski and
Desiree Ates both had eight kills, while Ates added a team-high six digs and
Meagan Lane had 26 assists.
