Box Score
The University of Regina's women's volleyball team completed a weekend sweep of Thompson Rivers on Saturday with a straight sets win over the WolfPack at the Tournament Capital Centre in Kamloops, B.C.
The Cougars trailed by scores of 21-20 and 22-21 late in the first set, but back-to-back kills by
Meagan Lane and
Trisha Dobson (pictured) broke a 23-23 tie to give the Cougars an early lead.
The second set was all Cougars after the media timeout, as the U of R ended the set on a 10-3 run to take a convincing 25-14 win while hitting .450 as a team. It was a similar story in the third set, as Thompson Rivers actually led at the media timeout but a late surge by the Cougars which saw them score five of the final six points gave the U of R a match-clinching 25-21 win.
Desiree Ates had a match-high 11 kills for the Cougars, while
Tori Glynn had eight and Dobson,
Michelle Sweeting, and
Chelsea Ziolkowski each had seven. Dobson had no errors on 12 attacks, giving her a career-high .583 hitting percentage for the match.
Lane had 37 assists in the win, while
Megan Semeniuk led all players with 10 digs.
Katarina Osadchuk collected a team-leading nine kills for Thompson Rivers, which falls to 0-12 with the loss.
The Cougars (3-9) will have a month-long break from the schedule before returning to action at the non-conference Panda Classic in Edmonton from Jan. 4 through Jan. 6. The Cougars return to Canada West play on Jan. 12 and Jan. 13 at home against UBC Okanagan.
