Mount Royal tops Cougars in four sets

The University of Regina's women's volleyball team suffered a four-set loss to Mount Royal on Friday night in a Canada West match at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

The Cougars hit .484 as a team in a first set in which they won by a 25-15 margin, but it was all Mount Royal from there. The visitors pulled out a 25-22 win in the second set to square the match at a set apiece, then won 25-11 in the third set and clinched the match with a 25-22 win in the fourth.

Carolyn O'Dwyer led Mount Royal with 11 kills and tied libero Tayler Smith for the team lead with 10 digs to notch her team's lone double-double. Julia Pasieka had nine kills and a match-high three service aces, while Kylie Willis led Mount Royal at the net with seven blocks. The win improves Mount Royal's conference record to 11-4 on the season as the Cougars move into a tie with Alberta for third place in the Canada West standings after the Pandas lost on the road in four to Brandon on Friday.

Tori Glynn set a new career high in kills for the second consecutive match, as the second-year outside had 13 and added eight digs for the U of R. Michelle Sweeting matched Glynn with 13 kills, while Meagan Lane collected 46 assists. Desiree Ates had 10 kills and 10 digs to register her team-leading fifth double-double of the conference schedule.
