The University of Regina's women's volleyball team fell in straight sets to the Manitoba Bisons on Saturday afternoon at the Investors Group Athletic Centre in Winnipeg.
The Cougars actually led for most of the first set, opening up a five-point advantage at one stage. But Manitoba battled back, staving off two set points and taking the first by a 26-24 margin. The Bisons continued that momentum into the second set and won 25-19 to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the match, then clinched the victory with a 25-21 win in the third.
Taylor Pischke led Manitoba (7-9) with 10 kills and 12 digs, while Emily Erickson dominated at the net with a match-leading nine blocks.
Desiree Ates had a match-leading 12 kills for the Cougars and tied both
Chelsea Ziolkowski and
Megan Semeniuk for the team high with six digs.
Michelle Sweeting led the Cougars (3-14) with five blocks. The U of R actually outhit Manitoba in the loss, ending up with a .130 hitting percentage for the match.
