Paige Wheeler scored the lone goal for the University of Regina's women's hockey team as the No. 9-ranked Cougars dropped a 5-1 decision to Lethbridge on Saturday at the Nicholas Sheran Arena in Lethbridge.

The loss snapped the U of R's seven-game winning streak, the fourth longest in program history. It's just the second setback in the past 13 games for the Cougars, who entered 2013 as one of the hottest teams in the nation.

Jenna-Marie Durnin scored twice for Lethbridge, while Jasmin Teske, Jocelyn Sabourin, and Breanna Frasca each had singles. The Cougars (13-5-0) held a 36-33 advantage in shots during the game, but Lethbridge goalie Crystal Patterson made 35 saves to help secure the victory.

Lethbridge led 1-0 after the first on Durnin's first of the game, then blew the game wide open in the second period after goals by Sabourin, Teske, and Durnin. Wheeler scored early in the third after jumping on a rebound following an Alexis Larson shot, but that was as close as the Cougars would come.

Frasca capped the scoring with an empty netter with just over a minute remaining in regulation.

Cougar goalie Jennifer Schmidt made 29 saves in the loss. Neither team was able to score on the power play, as Regina was 0-for-4 with the man advantage and Lethbridge was 0-for-2.

The Cougars will host No. 2-ranked Calgary this weekend in a battle of the top two teams in the Canada West standings. Regina enters the weekend with 26 points, while Calgary (14-3-1) has 29. The puck will drop at 7 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday at The Co-operators Centre.
