Box Score
Kendra Finch's goal in the fourth round of the shootout gave the University of Regina's women's hockey team a 2-1 win and a weekend road sweep over the Lethbridge Pronghorns.
The win gives the U of R four consecutive victories to start the Canada West schedule, marking the team's best start since 2003-04 when the Cougars won each of their first six conference games.
Toni Ross was tested all night long, but stopped 49 of Lethbridge's 50 shots in regulation and overtime and stoned all four Pronghorn attempts in the shootout to secure the victory.
Meghan Sherven scored the Cougars' regulation goal, giving the second-year forward goals in three of the team's first four games of the year. Sherven's goal tied up the game midway through the second period after Lethbridge's Aislinn Kooistra opened the scoring with six minutes left in the opening frame.
After opening the season with four straight road games, the Cougars will finally host their Canada West home openers next weekend at The Co-operators Centre. They'll entertain UBC in a two-game set that will be a rematch of last season's three-game Canada West semifinal series.
NOTES: Ross's 49 saves are the third-highest single-game total in school history, trailing only
Jennifer Schmidt's 54 (Nov. 26, 2011) and Lisa Urban's 50 (Oct. 31, 2009).
