Meagan Cormier (pictured) scored twice, including the game-winning goal in second-half added time, to power the University of Regina's women's soccer team to a 3-2 road win over Mount Royal on Sunday afternoon in Calgary.
With the match just seconds from ending in a draw, Cormier got into shooting position at the top of the box and fired a shot just under the bar to break the deadlock and give the Cougars their fourth win of the conference schedule.
The win improves the U of R's record to 4-4-1 on the season. The Cougars sit in seventh place in the Canada West standings with 13 points, two up on eighth-place Fraser Valley and two behind sixth-place Trinity Western.
The Cougars opened up the scoring with two goals in the first four minutes of the match.
Adrianna Bonutti scored her first of the season just two minutes into the contest and the Cougars were awarded a penalty kick just two minutes later. Cormier made no mistake, notching her 19th career goal to take over the school's all-time lead.
Mount Royal battled back, getting a goal from Kristen Bloom just four minutes after Cormier's goal and adding another from Kelsey Kinzner in the 36th minute as the two teams went into halftime deadlocked at 2-2.
Neither team was able to break through in the second half until Cormier's strike in the final moments of the contest.
Kacey McFee made 11 saves in net for the Cougars, six of which came in the second half to help prevent Mount Royal from taking the lead. Mount Royal had a 17-8 advantage in attempted shots, while each team was awarded six corner kicks.
The Cougars are back on the road next weekend with road games at Victoria and Fraser Valley on Friday and Saturday.
