The University of Regina's women's volleyball team took care of business in three sets on Friday night in a road game against Mount Royal in Calgary, winning the Canada West match by scores of 26-24, 25-23, and 25-18.
The Cougars shook off two set points in the opening set, as they trailed 24-22 but rallied for four consecutive points to take the 26-24 victory. The visitors faced another late deficit in the second set as Mount Royal held a 23-22 lead, but again the Cougars rallied with three consecutive points to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.
The third set wasn't as contested, with the Cougars (2-5) going on a 7-1 run midway through the set to take control and eventually went on to clinch the match with a 25-18 victory.
Desiree Ates had a match-high 15 kills for the Cougars, while
Michelle Sweeting added 10 kills and led all players with a .421 hitting percentage. Rookie setter
Leah Shevkenek dished out 41 assists in the win, while both
Tori Glynn and
Megan Semeniuk led the Cougars defensively with 11 digs.
Julia Pasieka and Kylie Willis each had seven kills for Mount Royal (2-5).
The two teams will meet again on Saturday night in Calgary (6:30 MST,
