Walker Wintoneak scored his first of two goals 16 seconds into the game and the Calgary Dinos would add two more before the first period was out as they easily defeated the Regina Cougars 9-0 in Canada West men's hockey action on Saturday night.
Kodie Curran had a pair of goals and added two assists for the Dinos. Ryan Harrison, Adam Kambeitz, Giffen Nyren, Spencer Edwards and Chance Lund also scored for Calgary and Jacob DeSerres stopped 23 shots for his third shutout of the season.
Andrew Hayes took the loss in net for the Cougars, stopping 34 shots on the night.
After Wintoneak's early goal, Harrison and Curran both added markers to put the Dinos up by three heading into the second period. Curran scored his second of the game on the power play 47 seconds into the frame, while Kambeitz also chippd in with his fifth of the year.
The Cougars continued to struggle into the third. Calgary got two goals from Wintoneak and Nyren 18 seconds apart in the first minute of the period to extend their lead to seven. They would get two more from Edwards and Lund on their way to a 9-0 win.
Calgary improves to 15-0-1 and is on top of the Canada West standings. Meanwhile the Cougars fall to 8-8-0 and currently occupy fourth place, just a single point behind the Saskatchewan Huskies.
The weekend series marked the final games for both teams before the Christmas break. The Cougars will hit the ice next on January 3 and 4 when they travel to Lethbridge to take on the Pronghorns.
