Nicole Clarke's 24 points led the University of Regina's women's basketball team to a 79-65 win over Lethbridge on Saturday night at the 1st Choice Savings Centre in Lethbridge.
The Cougars led this one from wire to wire, going on a huge 19-0 run in the first quarter to jump out to a 23-2 lead and holding a double-digit advantage for the rest of the contest. Lethbridge chipped the lead down to 11 midway through the fourth, but that was as close as the Pronghorns were able to come.
Nicole Clarke was 4-for-6 from three-point range and tied for the game high with 24 points, while
Kehlsie Crone had 15 points, a game-high six assists, and was one of four Cougars to pull down six rebounds.
Alyssia Kajati led the Cougars with seven rebounds, while both
Charlotte Kot (12 points) and
Katie Polischuk (11) also hit double figures in scoring.
Lethbridge's Kim Veldman was 9-for-31 from the field and matched Clarke's 24 points as the Pronghorns fall to 3-7 on the season.
The Cougars improve their Canada West record to 8-2 and run their winning streak to four games with the victory. They remain tied for second place in Canada West's Prairie Division with Alberta and Calgary and will return to the conference schedule at home against Thompson Rivers and UBC Okanagan on Jan. 9 and Jan. 10.
