Box Score
In a match that didn't have nearly the intensity of the one played between the two teams less than 24 hours previous, the University of Regina's women's volleyball team fell in straight sets to No. 1-ranked UBC on Saturday night at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.
One night following a five-set UBC win, Saturday's match was all Thunderbirds as the visitors won by scores of 25-12, 25-18, and 25-20 to notch their 12th win in as many Canada West matches this season. UBC led from wire to wire in the first set, recovered from an early three-point deficit in the second, and opened up the third with five straight points before fending off a Cougar comeback to clinch the sweep.
Lisa Barclay had the match's lone double-double as the fourth-year outside hitter led all players with 10 digs and 10 kills while hitting a team-best .300 for UBC. Mariah Bruinsma was in on seven of UBC's 11 blocks in the win including three solo blocks, while libero Briana Liau Kent had seven digs and setter Kirsty Setterlund dished out 23 assists while piloting a Thunderbirds offence that hit .188 as a team in the win.
Michelle Sweeting had seven kills on 13 attacks while hitting a team-high .308 for the Cougars, while
Tori Glynn (pictured) led the U of R in both kills (8) and digs (7) and
Molly Wade-Cummings had a team-high five blocks.
UBC (12-0) will return to action at UBC Okanagan on Jan. 10 and Jan. 11, while the Cougars (3-9) return to action on Jan. 11 and Jan. 12 at home against Alberta.
