The University of Regina's women's volleyball team was taken out in straight sets by the Calgary Dinos on Friday night at the Jack Simpson Gym on the U of C campus.
The Dinos opened up the match with a decisive 25-15 win in the first set, cruised to a 25-18 victory in the second, and held off the Cougars to clinch the match with a 28-26 win in the third. The U of R led by six points at the media timeout in the third, but eight straight points by the Dinos following the break put Calgary into the lead.
Calgary's Lindsay Russell led all players with 12 kills and hit .478 for the match, while setter Jordhynn Guy had 35 assists and Lindsay Doland recorded nine kills and nine digs for the Dinos.
Michelle Sweeting (pictured) had nine kills and a .538 hitting percentage for the Cougars in the loss.
The two teams will meet again on Saturday night in Calgary. It'll be the final match of the 2012-13 season for the Cougars, while the Dinos have clinched a postseason berth and have an outside chance of jumping up to sixth place in the Canada West standings with a victory.
