Box Score

The University of Regina's women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the 2013 conference schedule with a 2-1 setback on Saturday afternoon to Saskatchewan at Griffiths Stadium in Saskatoon.

Facing a 2-0 deficit late in the contest, Meagan Cormier scored off a free kick in the 84th minute to draw the Cougars to within one but the visitors weren't able to come up with a match-tying strike. The Cougars had other chances to score during the match, perhaps none better than Cormier's shot off the cross bar late in the first half.

Jenelle Zapski and Nicholle Morrison both scored for Saskatchewan. Zapski's goal opened the scoring in the 35th minute, while Morrison's goal came in the 81st minute to give the Huskies a late two-goal advantage.

Saskatchewan had 14 shot attempts to Regina's seven, but only four of the Huskies' shots were on target. Cougar keeper Kacey McFee made a pair of saves, while Saskatchewan's Cara Santaga had four saves in the victory.

The Cougars (2-1-0) host their home openers next weekend at the U of R Field. They'll take on No. 7-ranked UBC (0-0-2) and No. 1-ranked Trinity Western (0-1-1) on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Both matches will kick off at noon.

NOTES: Cormier's goal was her third of the season and the 17th of her five-season career with the Cougars ... Cormier is now just one goal short of tying Jessica Waller for the school's all-time lead in goals scored.
