Dinos blank Cougars in first game of weekend set

The University of Regina men's hockey team was blanked 5-0 in the first of a two-game set against the sixth-ranked Calgary Dinos on Friday.

The Dinos scored three goals in the first period thanks to markers from Max Ross, Kodie Curran and Elgin Pearce. Pearce's line, along with Spencer Edwards and Dylan Walchuk, combined for seven points in the first period as the Dinos put the game out of reach early.

Brooks Myers earned a tally of his own in the second period and Adam Kambeitz added a short-handed goal late to seal the win for the hometown Dinos.

Dylen McKinlay, Liam Brennan (pictured) and Ian McNulty each registered four shots on net for the Coguars. Cody Fowlie chipped in with three.

Mitch Kilgore came on in relief of Lucas Gore, who left the game in the first following a collision which forced him to exit the game. The two combined to make 23 saves for the Cougars.
Kris Lazaruk made 22 stops in net for his first shutout of the season.

The Dinos improve to 5-2 with the loss while the Cougars fall to 0-7.

The Cougars will continue their quest for their first win of the season again on Saturday, with the game scheduled for 6 p.m.
