Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Cougars downed 3-2 by Dinos

The University of Regina men's hockey team scored two goals in the third period but it was not enough as they fell 3-2 to the sixth-ranked Calgary Dinos on Saturday evening.

Elgin Pearce scored for the second-straight night for Calgary, which also got goals from Chris Collins and Cain Franson. Alex Dzielski chipped in with two assists for the Dinos, who improve to 6-2 with the win.

Austin Bourhis and Cody Fowlie each scored their first goals of the season in response for the Cougars.

Mitch Kilgore (pictured) did well to keep the Cougars in the game through the first period, as the Dinos out-shot Regina 19-4 in the opening frame. Collins was the only one who could beat Kilgore in the frame, but the Dinos tacked on two goals in the second.

Regina's two goals came within four minutes of each other in the third, as Bourhis scored just past the halfway mark. The Cougars drew the shot total closer, outshooting the Dinos in the third, but it wasn't enough even though Kilgore was pulled with 1:06 left.

Dylen McKinlay and Ian McNulty assisted on Bourhis's goal and Miguel Pereira earned the helper on Fowlie's.

Pereira also led the Cougars with five shots on net. Tyler Henry tallied four for Regina and Franson led the Dinos with eight attempts at net.

Kilgore turned away 39 of the 42 shots he faced. Jacob DeSerres spent the game between the pipes for the Dinos, stopping 24 shots.

The Cougars drop to 0-8 with the loss, and will have next weekend off before they get back into action on Oct. 31 when they host the UBC Thunderbirds.
