Cougars fall in four to Bisons

The University of Regina's women's volleyball team fell to 0-2 on the season after losing in four sets to Manitoba on Saturday afternoon in Winnipeg.

After losing the first by a 25-15 count, the Cougars scored five of the final six points of the second to take the set 25-19 and square the match at 1-1. But that would be the high point of the match for the visitors, as Manitoba took the lead back with a 25-19 win in the third and clinched the match with a 25-23 victory in the fourth.

Rachel Cockrell had an impressive game for Manitoba (2-2), leading all players in both kills (26) and digs (16) while hitting .489 for the match.

Three Cougars broke into double digits in kills for the Cougars, including Chelsea Ziolkowski and Tori Glynn with 13 each to lead the U of R. Michelle Sweeting also had 12 kills and added 10 digs, while Leah Shevkenek had 45 assists and Molly Wade-Cummings led the team at the net with eight blocks.

The Cougars will now prepare for their home openers against Winnipeg next Friday and Saturday night at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.
