The University of Regina men's hockey team was defeated 6-0 by the Manitoba Bisons in Canada West action in Winnipeg on Friday.
The Bisons capitalized on their powerplay chances and scored two goals in four opportunities with the man advantage.
The Cougars were held off the scoresheet by a strong Bisons defence and a good effort in net from Bisons goalie Deven Dubyk.
The Bisons scored three times in the opening frame, with goals from Aaron Lewadniuk, Jordan DePape and Brock Sutherland.
Shaquille Merasty notched a powerplay marker at the start of the third period and Kyle Rous added a goal less than two minutes later to balloon the lead to 5-0. Dustin Bruyere scored another for the Bisons midway through the final frame.
Jesse Paradis tallied three assists for the Bisons.
Ryan Dech had six shots on net for the Cougars. Liam Brennan (pictured) added four of his own.
Lucas Gore made the start in net for the Cougars and stopped six of the nine shots he faced.
Mitch Kilgore came on in relief at the start of the second period and made 17 saves.
Dubyk made 25 saves for the home team.
Regina falls to 0-3 with the loss. The Bisons improve to 1-2.
The two teams will square off again on Saturday, with puck drop scheduled for noon Saskatchewan time.
