Cougars hold off second-half Carleton rally; defeat Ravens 61-55

The University of Regina's women's basketball team had to fend off a rally from the Carleton Ravens in the second half, but eventually prevailed for a 61-55 victory on Thursday night in non-conference action at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

The Cougars led by as many as 14 points in the third quarter, but Carleton exploded for a 22-6 run to take the lead heading into the fourth. The offence dried up for the Ravens after that, though, as the visitors only scored three points in the final eight minutes of the game and the Cougars got a pair of key Katie Polischuk triples down the stretch to help pull away.

Alyssia Kajati was 8-for-13 from the field, led the Cougars with 18 points, and pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds to secure a double-double. Polischuk (pictured) ended up 4-for-9 from three-point range and scored 13 for the U of R, while Kehlsie Crone scored 11 and led all players with five rebounds.

Lindsay Shotbolt also had a double-double for Carleton, scoring a game-high 21 points to go along with 10 rebounds. Shotbolt and Elizabeth Leblanc both had four steals for the Ravens to tie for the game lead, while Heather Lindsay added 10 points for the visitors.

Carleton is now 1-1 against CIS competition during the non-conference schedule, while the win improves the Cougars' record to 4-2.
