The University of Regina's women's volleyball team dropped the first two sets to Calgary on Saturday night and never recovered, eventually falling in four to the Dinos at the Jack Simpson Gym in Calgary.
Calgary set the tone for the match by hitting .350 in a first set which the home side won 25-18, then followed that up with a 25-14 win in the second.
The Cougars showed some life in the third set, though, at one point scoring seven consecutive points to open up an early 8-2 lead. Calgary battled back with four straight points of its own before the techincal timeout to get to within two, but would draw no closer. The Cougars went on a quick 5-1 run to restore the six-point lead and a
Tori Glynn kill gave the U of R a 25-22 win.
But the Cougars couldn't ride that momentum into the fourth set, which was never in question after Calgary opened up early leads of 4-0 and 10-3 on its way to a match-clinching 25-12 win.
Kate Pexman led Calgary in both kills (11) and digs (10) as the Dinos improve to 8-4. Janna Ogle and Ali Woolley both added nine kills for Calgary.
Michelle Sweeting led the Cougars with 14 kills, while setter
Leah Shevkenek ended up with 28 assists and nine digs. Now 3-7 on the season, the Cougars will be back in action at home next weeeknd against UBC Okanagan.
