Kehlsie Crone had career highs with five three-pointers and 21 points as the University of Regina's women's basketball team improved its winning streak to five games with a 79-68 road win over Lethbridge.
Though Lethbridge led 35-34 at the break, the Pronghorns only had two leads the entire game - at 2-0 after a bucket by Kim Veldman on the game's opening possession, and that one-point lead at halftime.
The rest of the time, it was the Cougars out front. They opened up a double-digit advantage early in the second only to have Lethbridge battle back to take the lead on a 13-2 run capped by a Courtney Kwasney deuce 15 seconds before the halftime buzzer. But the Cougars took the lead back almost immediately following the break, then went on a 10-2 run to close out the third quarter. Lethbridge got to within five at one point in the fourth, but
Katie Polischuk quickly countered with a three-pointer and the Cougars led by no less than six the rest of the way.
Crone, who also had a game-high five assists, is now Canada West's leader with a 61.9% success rate from three-point range. Polischuk finished just behind her with four three-pointers and 16 points, while
Charlotte Kot matched Polischuk with 16 points.
Alyssia Kajati added 10 points for the Cougars, with
Jennilea Coppola pulling down a game-high seven rebounds.
Veldman led all players with 28 points for Lethbridge, which drops to 3-4 on the season.
The win improves Regina's record to 5-2 on the season as the Cougars remain in a tie with Winnipeg for second place in the Pioneer Division.
The two teams will square off again on Saturday in Lethbridge (5 p.m. MST, canadawest.tv).
