The University of Regina's men's basketball team led for three quarters, but couldn't hold off a Lethbridge team that had a strong second half in a 93-85 win over the Cougars on Friday night in Lethbridge.
The Cougars went into halftime with a 12-point advantage after closing out the second quarter on a 6-0 run, but slowly saw that lead drift away in the third. Lethbridge outscored the Cougars by a 25-16 margin in the third quarter to cut Regina's lead to three, then went on a 14-2 run in the fourth to take its first lead since the first - and a lead the Pronghorns wouldn't relinquish.
Six of the seven players Lethbridge (5-2) used in the win hit double figures in points, including Jared Baker who ended up with 20 points, 11 assists, and 10 rebounds for a rare triple-double. Brent Watkins had 13 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double, while Michael Pierzchala came off the bench to chip in with 17 points for Lethbridge.
Brandon Tull led the Cougars (2-5) with 22 points, while
Jonathan Tull added 19 and
Travis Sylvestre scored 10.
Will Tallman ended up with nine points and nine rebounds, all of which came on the defensive glass.
The Cougars will attempt to pick up a weekend split on Saturday night (7 p.m., canadawest.tv) against the same Pronghorns.
