Regina (3-6-4-1) is coming off a split against Mount Royal University, in which they won 3-2 in double overtime on Friday and fell 2-0 in Saturday's rematch.
Kylie Gavelin and
Meghan Sherven scored in regulation for the Cougars on Friday, before
Alexis Larson netted the overtime winner.
Triston Riemer (pictured) notched two assists in the contest.
"We've been dealing with a lot of injuries that have made things tough on us, but I've been happy with the way we've battled," head coach
Sarah Hodges said. "The close games we've had so far this season will pay off for us the rest of the way, we just need to keep fighting."
Jennifer Schmidt, who made 31 saves in Friday's win, has been splitting time in net with
Toni Ross. Ross stopped 33 out of the 34 shots she faced on Saturday, before Mount Royal added an empty-netter to seal the win.
Schmidt has five wins on the season while sporting a goal-against average of 1.67. Ross has a four wins to go with her 1.90 GAA.
Both goalies are in the top three in Canada West with save percentages over .941.
The Cougars are led by Gavelin, who is fourth in the conference with nine goals on the campaign. Larson and Riemer are tied for second on the team with six points each.
"We have a lot of girls on the team that can score, I think it's just a matter of getting them started," Hodges added. "Once we gain that confidence I think it will really open things up for us."
The Pronghorns are led by Jenae Culp and Sadie Lenstra, both of whom have eight points on the season. Sarah Spence has also chipped in with seven.
Crystal Patterson has been the centrepiece between the pipes for Lethbridge, as she has started all 14 games for the Pronghorns. Patterson has faced 475 shots during the Canada West schedule, the most in the conference.Â
Regina has 22 points this season and sits in sixth place heading into the weekend. However, the Cougars are just four points out of first place in the crowded Canada West conference.
The Cougars hosted Lethbridge back on Nov. 7th and 8th, and came away with 4-1 and 2-0 wins. That weekend saw Gavelin register three goals and
Natasha Kostenko and
Bailey Braden each notch two assists.
Both games are set to start at 8 p.m. Saskatchewan time.
