The University of Regina's women's basketball team made it two wins in as many nights over the Manitoba Bisons with a 91-55 victory on Saturday night at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.
Â
The win improves Regina's record to 2-2 on the season as the Cougars pull into a five-way tie for fourth place in the early Pioneer Division standings.
Â
Kehlsie Crone (pictured) and
Alyssia Kajati both led the Cougars with 18 points, with Kajati pulling down nine rebounds to fall just short of a double-double. Crone led all players with five assists and matched her career high with four three-pointers, ending up 4-for-5 from downtown in the win.
Â
The Cougars had big contributions off the bench from both
Jennilea Coppola and rookie
Christina McCusker. Coppola had a double-double with 12 points and a game-high 14 rebounds, while McCusker had 14 points and seven rebounds.
Â
Manitoba (0-4) was led by 10 points from Samantha Pyke, while Sheree Carmona-Galdamez chipped in with nine.
Â
The Cougars took control of this one early, reeling off a massive 26-4 run over the last seven minutes of the first quarter and the first half of the second. They took a 48-25 lead into halftime and never led by less than 20 the rest of the way, cruising to their second Canada West win of the season.
Â
Regina shot 47.2% from the field in the win, including 44.4% from three-point range as the Cougars hit eight of their 18 attempts from downtown led by Crone's hot shooting from the outside. They also held a 59-30 rebounding advantage over Manitoba.
Â
The Cougars will host Calgary (2-2) next weekend at the CKHS, while Manitoba plays host to Brandon (0-4).
