Live statsLive videoThe University of Regina women's hockey team will look to bounce back against the Manitoba Bisons after a pair of losses against the Alberta Pandas last weekend.
Regina (4-6-7-1) was defeated by the Pandas, 4-0 on Friday and 3-1 on Saturday. The Cougars retain sixth place in Canada West with 25 points, but they have some work to do to catch the fifth-place Saskatchewan Huskies, who have 32 points.
"I expect the girls to be ready to go this weekend, last weekend we didn't seem 100% ready to compete," head coach
Sarah Hodges said. "We need to make our own luck and put ourselves in better positions to be successful."
The Bisons are in third place in the conference, sitting at 10-2-5-1 with 35 points. The Cougars and Bisons met in October and played a pair of tight games. Manitoba bested the Cougars in the opener, winning 1-0 in double overtime but the Cougars clawed back and earned a 3-2 overtime win on the second night.
The Cougars are led by
Kylie Gavelin, who is tied for third in Canada West with 10 goals.
Triston Riemer is second on the team in points with nine, all of them assists.
Alexis Larson has seven points, and
Brooklyn Moskowy,
Bailey Braden,
Carleen Meszaros,
Emma Waldenberger and
Stephanie Sawchuk each have six points on the campaign.
Jennifer Schmidt and
Toni Ross continue to split time in net for the Cougars. Schmidt has a 6-2-1 record with a 1.94 GAA and a .934 save percentage. Ross has posted a 4-5 record with a 2.05 GAA and a .933 save percentage.
Alanna Sharman is tied for second in Canada West with 19 points including 11 goals. Lauryn Keen is tied for third amongst defencemen with 12 points.
"They have some good players but obviously we want to play everyone hard, we don't have a special plan for them," Hodges said of the Bisons.
Rachel Dyck has seen the majority of time between the pipes for the Bisons, and has an 11-2 record on the season to go with a Canada West leading 1.07 goals-against average. Dyck also leads the conference in save percentage, stopping shots at a .955 clip.
"We'll be ready to compete," Hodges added. "We match up well against them and we're anticipating a successful weekend."
Friday's contest is set for 7 p.m. and Saturday's rematch is slated for 3 p.m. in Winnipeg.
