Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Cougars roll over Saskatchewan in straight sets

In a match that didn't look anything like the first half of the weekend set, the University of Regina's women's volleyball team swept Saskatchewan in three on Saturday night at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

The Cougars needed to come back from a 2-1 deficit in the match to win in five on Friday, but no such heroics were needed on Saturday. The U of R won all three sets by scores of 25-18 to improve its Canada West record to 6-12 on the season.

After setting a career high in kills on Friday night, fifth-year right side Chelsea Ziolkowski had another strong outing on Saturday. She led all players in both kills (13) and hitting percentage (.588) and added 10 digs to register her sixth double of the Canada West schedule. Second-year setter Leah Shevkenek (pictured) was doing it all on Saturday, collecting 35 assists while putting down a career-high seven kills.

Michelle Sweeting added 10 kills for the Cougars, while Tori Glynn had seven kills and tied Ziolkowski for the team lead with 10 digs. Jenna Krahn also had an efficient outing for the U of R, finishing with seven kills on just 15 attacks and a .400 hitting percentage.

Emily Humbert led Saskatchewan (4-14) with seven kills and four blocks.

The Cougars, who hit .310 as a team in the victory, will be back in action next weekend with two road matches at Alberta. Saskatchewan will host Manitoba next Friday and Saturday.
