The University of Regina men's hockey team was downed 3-2 by Mount Royal University in Calgary on Sunday afternoon.
The loss marks Regina's second straight and drops their record to 6-13-1.
Liam Brennan (pictured) and
Mark Schneider found the back of the net for the Cougars. Tyler Jewitt and Sebastien Pare both scored for the second-straight night, and Zack Henry also scored for the home team.
Brennan's third of the season came just 38 seconds into the game, as he fired a shot over the blocker of Cam Lanigan to give Regina an early 1-0 lead. MRU replied before the end of the period, as Jewitt notched his fourth of the campaign.
Regina jumped ahead again in the second period, as
Mark Schneider wired a point shot through the five hole of Lanigan.
Cody Fowlie and
Dylen McKinlay collected helpers on Schneider's first of the season.
Regina's advantage would not last long, as Henry potted a rebound on an MRU penalty kill and knotted the game at 2-2. Later in the frame, Pare took a feed from Cody Cartier and beat Gore, putting MRU up for good.
Netminder
Lucas Gore kept the Cougars close in the third period, stopping nine shots in the frame and 27 total.
Brennan registered a game-high seven shots in the contest, while Schneider and
Carter Selinger chipped in with four apiece.
MRU takes sole possession of second place in Canada West with the win, improving to 14-6.
The Cougars will continue their play away from home next weekend with a pair of showdowns against the Alberta Golden Bears. The Golden Bears lead the conference with a 17-3 record.
