The University of Regina women's hockey team will hit the road this weekend, travelling to Edmonton for a pair of games against the Alberta Pandas.
The Cougars are coming off a weekend split against the Manitoba Bisons, where the Bisons topped the Cougars 3-1 before Regina bounced back for a 3-2 victory on Saturday.
Meghan Sherven scored for the Cougars in Friday's loss, while
Kylie Gavelin,
Emma Waldenberger and
Nikki Watters-Matthes found the net in Saturday's win.
With the results from last weekend, the Cougars have a 2-1-1-0 record and sit third in Canada West behind the 4-0-0-0 Lethbridge Pronghorns and the 3-0-1-0 Saskatchewan Huskies.
The Cougars offence has been explosive so far this season, with Waldenberger and rookie
Jaycee Magwood sitting one-two in the Canada West scoring race. Waldenberger has six goals and three assists, while Magwood has been a consistent distributor, notching a goal and five helpers so far. Also in the scoring race for Regina are Watters-Matthes (tied for eighth with four points) and
Brooklyn Moskowy (tied for 13th with three points).
Toni Ross has started three games in net for the Cougars, winning all three contests while posting a .944 save percentage and 1.60 goals-against average.
Jane Kish started the other game, stopping 25 out of 27 shots for a 2.05 GAA.
The Pandas are currently in seventh place in the conference with a 1-0-3-0 record. Last weekend's action saw Alberta fall 3-2 and 3-1 at home against the Pronghorns. Leading the way offensively for Alberta are Alison Campbell and Janelle Froehler with two goals apiece.
Friday's game is slated for 7 p.m. PDT, and Saturday's rematch will face off at 2 p.m. PDT.
