Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Cougars fall to Windsor in opening game of Graham Shootout

The University of Regina's men's basketball team was within two at halftime, but a big third-quarter surge lifted Windsor to a 94-80 win on Thursday night in both teams' first game at the Graham Shootout non-conference tournament in Saskatoon.

Brandon Tull scored three consecutive baskets in the final minutes of the second quarter to shave Windsor's lead to 42-40 at the break, but the third quarter was all Lancers. Windsor reeled off a 20-3 run as the U of R went without a field goal for a seven-minute span, turning what had been a tie ball game into a 17-point lead for the Lancers.

The Cougars steadily chipped away at the lead in the fourth quarter, but after a pair of free throws by Aaron McGowan got them to within eight with just under two minutes left the Lancers replied with a three-pointer and an old-fashioned three-point play – both by Alex Campbell – to seal the win.

Campbell and Isiah Osborne provided the bulk of the offence for Windsor in the win with 35 and 29 points, respectively. Both were deadly from the perimeter, with Campbell finishing 3-for-4 from three-point land and Osborne hitting five of nine from downtown to help Windsor shoot 46% from three as a team and 51% from the field overall.

Jonathan Tull (pictured) led the Cougars with 23 points despite playing just 19 minutes due to foul trouble. Brian Ofori came off the bench to add 15 points, while Brandon Tull finished with 13 points and led the U of R in both rebounds (6) and steals (3).

The Cougars continue the Graham Shootout on Friday night against Concordia, which took out host Saskatchewan by an 80-67 count on Thursday. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m.
