SATURDAY: vs. Saskatchewan Huskies, 7 p.m., The Co-operators Centre.
The University of Regina women's hockey team is at home on Saturday for the second night of a home-and-home set with the provincial rival Saskatchewan Huskies.
The Cougars enter this weekend in fourth place in Canada West with a 3-2-1-0 (W-L-OW-OL) record. The Huskies are sporting a 4-1-0-1 mark through the first six games.
Prior to Saturday's game at The Co-operators Centre, the Cougars and Huskies will battle it out at the Rutherford Rink in Saskatoon.
Regina leads the conference in goals scored through the opening six games, with 20. Leading the way there is Canada West points leader
Emma Waldenberger with seven.
Meghan Sherven has three,
Caitlin Dempsey and
Kylie Gavelin each have two, and
Jaycee Magwood,
Alexis Larson,
Brooklyn Moskowy,
Nikki Watters-Matthes,
Carleen Meszaros and
Chelsea Perepeluk have also scored.
Fifth-year goaltender
Toni Ross has seen the majority of action between the pipes for the Cougars, posting a 2.15 goals-against average and a .923 save percentage in five starts.
The Huskies are led by Kaitlin Willoughby, who is tied with Magwood for third place in the Canada West scoring race. Willoughby has seven points through six games, while Kori Herner and Julia Flinton are right behind her with five points apiece.
Cassidy Hendricks has started four games in net, while Jerrica Waltz has gotten the nod twice. Both goalies have GAA's under 2.00, with Hendricks at 1.99 and Waltz at 1.51.
