The University of Regina women's soccer team was shut out by the UBC Thunderbirds in Vancouver on Friday evening.

Amrit Berar, Krista Whittaker and Madison Guy found the net for the Thunderbirds.

UBC jumped out to an early lead with Berar's goal coming on a penalty kick in the 11th minute. Whittaker's goal came right before half, in the 42nd minute, and Guy scored in injury time right before the first half came to an end.

The Cougars defence clamped down in the second half, only allowing two shots, but the damage had been done by the Thunderbirds strong opening 45.

Deanna Dartige made her first appearance since 2013, after missing all of last season with a knee injury. The fourth-year midfielder had two shots, one of which was on net.

Savannah Williams played the entire 90 minutes in net, and made four saves in the loss. Olivia de Goede stopped two shots for UBC.

The Cougars will make the short trip over to Victoria to take on the Vikes on Saturday evening. Game time is set for 5 p.m. (PDT).
