Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Cougars downed in straight sets by Thunderbirds

The University of Regina women's volleyball team was blanked by the UBC Thunderbirds in Canada West action at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health and Sport on Friday night.

The Thunderbirds, who hold the No. 8-ranking in the CIS, took the match in straight sets - 25-21, 25-18 and 25-16.

After the Cougars let a tightly-contested first set slip away, the momentum seemed to shift towards the Thunderbirds, as the visitors rolled to a three-set victory to spoil the Cougars' home opener.

Danielle Brisebois led the attack for the Thunderbirds, totalling 15 kills on only 18 attempts. Laura McTaggart (12) and Alissa Coulter (11) also hit double digits. Tori Gylnn notched five for the Cougars, who got four kills from both Ashlee Sandiford and Jenna Krahn.

Satomi Togawa (pictured) had 20 assists for the Cougars, while Thunderbird setter Alessandra Gentile posted 35. Krahn also led the Cougars with six digs in the match.

UBC improves to 3-0 after hitting at an impressive .463 clip, while the Cougars attack could only muster a .110 rate.

The Cougars (0-4) and Thunderbirds will square off again on Saturday evening, with game time slated for 5 p.m. at the CKHS.
