The University of Regina women's hockey team is back in action this weekend, heading to Calgary to take on Mount Royal University in a two-game set.
The Cougars, who are coming off a bye week, enter the weekend with a 3-4-2-1 record and sit in sixth place in a crowded Canada West conference. MRU is sporting a 4-5-0-1 record and sits just a point back of the Cougars.
The last time Regina took the ice they split a pair of contests with the UBC Thunderbirds.
Kylie Gavelin scored twice and assisted on a
Brooklyn Moskowy goal in a 3-2 win over the visiting T-Birds, before UBC bounced back on the second night, winning 3-1. Moskowy scored her second of the weekend in Saturday's loss.
Emma Waldenberger remains tied for the Canada West scoring lead, with eight goals and three assists through 10 games. Rookie forward
Jaycee Magwood is in fifth place in scoring with nine points and a conference-high eight helpers. Gavelin has also heated up on the offensive end after a slow start, with five of her seven points on the season coming in her last three games.
Toni Ross (pictured) has the third-highest minutes played total among goaltenders in the conference, with 522:24. Ross has posted a 2.07 goals-against average to go along with a .929 save percentage in eight starts for the Cougars. Ross also recorded her fifth career shutout this season, bumping her into a tie for fourth place on the Cougars all-time list.
The leading scorers for Mount Royal are Carley Bertram (1G, 3A), Hali Reardon (1G, 3A) and Channia Alexander (1G, 3A).
Jessica Ross and Emma Pincott have split time in net for MRU, with each goaltender making five starts. Ross has a 2-3-0 record while Pincott is at 2-2-1.
Friday's game is slated for 7 p.m. MST and Satuday's rematch will be played at 3 p.m. MST
