The University of Regina women's hockey team closed the Mandi Schwartz Challenge with a 2-0 win over Grant MacEwan University on Sunday.
Caitlin Dempsey and
Kylie Gavelin found the net at The Co-operators Centre. The win gives the Cougars a 3-1 record for the weekend, good enough to finish second behind the Lethbridge Pronghorns. The Pronghorns finished the tournament at 3-0, handing the Cougars their only loss of the weekend.
On Saturday evening, the Cougars earned a 2-1 shootout win over the Saskatchewan Huskies.
Gavelin scored in regulation for the Cougars, and
Brooklyn Moskowy netted the only goal out of six shooters in the shootout. Keri Hemer scored in regulation for the Huskies.
Jane Kish was the winning goaltender.
Friday's game saw the Cougars jump out to a quick 2-0 lead over the Lethbridge Pronghorns, before surrendering five straight goals to fall 5-2 to the Pronghorns.
Emma Waldenberger scored for the Cougars, and rookie
Jaycee Magwood (pictured) also found the net. Jenae Culp scored twice for Lethbridge, which also got singles from Brett Campbell, Kristen Reeves and Tricia Van Vaerenbergh.
In Thursday's action, the Cougars topped the Under-18 Saskatchewan provincial team 7-1.Waldenberger led the Cougars with a four-point night, notching two goals and assisting on two more. Magwood also netted a pair of goals and recorded one helper.
Alexis Larson,
Caitlin Dempsey and
Chelsea Perepeluk also lit the lamp for the Cougars.
Merissa Zerr scored the lone goal for Team Saskatchewan.
Kish got the win in net.
