The University of Regina men's hockey team fell victim to a relentless Alberta attack on Saturday, falling 5-1 to the hometown Golden Bears.
Levko Koper lit the lamp twice for Alberta, while Stephane Legault, James Dobrowolski and Mitchell Topping also scored in the win.
Trent Lofthouse scored the only goal for the Cougars, scoring his third on an unassisted effort late in the third period when the game was out of reach.
Dawson MacAuley got the nod again, after making 53 saves on Friday night. The rookie was busy between the pipes again, stopping 37 shots as the Golden Bears outshot the Cougars 42-24 as the sweep was completed.
Andy Desautels came on in relief for most of the third period, making four saves on five shots.
Koper got things going for the Golden Bears in the first period, scoring his 10th of the season off assists from Will Tomchuk and Legault. Dobrowolski's goal came right at the end of the first period, giving the home team a burst of momentum headed into the second period.
Alberta's attack looked just as strong in the second, registering 20 shots on goal during the frame. Legault and Topping were able to beat MacAuley for even-strength goals, putting the Cougars in a 4-0 hole going into the final 20 minutes. Desautels came on in the third period and was welcomed with a Golden Bears powerplay. Koper was able to pot his second of the game as Jordan Hickmott and Jordan Rowley set him up.
Lofthouse (pictured) netted his third of the season with just over ten minutes to play, but Luke Siemens easily turned away any other Cougar attempts to get a comeback going. Siemens made 23 saves for his second win in as many nights.
Regina (5-17-0) is on the road again next weekend, travelling to Calgary to take on Mount Royal University.
