Iuliaa Pakhomenko was brilliant yet again for Thompson Rivers as the WolfPack completed a weekend sweep with a three-set victory over the Regina Cougars on Saturday night at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.
Â
Pakhomenko piled up 21 kills in the three-set match, and with only four errors on 30 attacks the Ukrainian outside hitter finished with a match-high .567 hitting percentage.
Â
Thompson Rivers started out the match by hitting a blistering .630 as a team in a 25-19 win in the opening set – and that was the closest of the three, as the WolfPack followed that up with 25-16 and 25-15 wins to clinch the win and improve their Canada West record to 9-9 on the season.
Â
Brianne Rauch added eight kills and a match-high eight digs for TRU, while Alina Sopizhuk had six kills and setter Katie Woo finished with 34 assists.
Â
The Cougars (1-17) were led by
Jenna Krahn and
Diana Lumbala, who tied for the team lead with seven kills.
Molly Wade-Cummings added five kills, a pair of blocks, and had a team-high .333 hitting percentage.
Â
Regina will now prepare for its final two home matches of the year next weekend against Alberta, while Thompson Rivers will look to edge closer to nailing down a Canada West postseason berth next weekend at home against Manitoba.
