The University of Regina women's hockey team was unable to complete the season sweep of the Calgary Dinos on Saturday, as the hometown Dinos blanked the Cougars 3-0.
Iya Gavrilova and Cheyann Newman were able to beat
Jane Kish to build up a 2-0 lead before Gavrilova added an empty netter with just over two minutes to play to seal the deal.
Gavrilova's first goal came just one minute and 10 seconds into the second period, as Delaney Frey and Sash Vafina set the CIS leading scorer up to put Calgary ahead. Vafina was in on the second goal as well, firing a pass to Heather Berzins who found Newman for the goal near the end of the second frame.
The Cougars (7-7-3-1) were able to outshoot the Dinos 35-20 during the afternoon contest, but couldn't solve Hayley Dowling.
Emma Waldenberger and
Jaycee Magwood (pictured) combined for 14 shots on net.
Dowling earned her second win of the season between the pipes. Kish drops to 0-4 on the season, as she continues the search for her first Canada West regular season win in net.
Regina will be on the road again next weekend, as the Cougars travel to Lethbridge to battle the 6-8-2-1 Pronghorns.
