Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Cougars drop 5-1 decision to No. 9 Manitoba

The University of Regina's women's hockey team suffered a 5-1 loss to No. 9-ranked Manitoba on Thursday night in Canada West action at the Wayne Fleming Arena in Winnipeg.

Lilla Carpenter-Boesch (pictured) scored the lone goal for the Cougars, who fall to 2-2-1-0 with the loss. Carpenter-Boesch's goal, her second of the season, tied up the game at 1-1 just a minute after Manitoba's Jordyn Zacharias opened the scoring midway through the first.

But that was the only time the Cougars were able to solve Manitoba goalie Rachel Dyck. Charity Price added another one before the first intermission to put the Bisons up 2-1 after 20 minutes, and goals by Courtlyn Oswald and Alana Serhan in the middle stanza gave Manitoba a 4-1 advantage. Lauryn Keen's goal just 19 seconds into the third period chased Regina starter Jane Kish, as rookie goalie Morgan Baker came on in relief and stopped all four shots she faced.

Manitoba now has five consecutive regulation wins to open the Canada West schedule. The Bisons (5-0-0-0) are first in the conference standings with a six-point cushion over second-place UBC.

The two teams will finish up the rare Thursday/Friday series tomorrow night. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. (CDT).

NOTES: Kylee Kupper assisted on Carpenter-Boesch's goal … Kupper is now second on the team with four points on the season, behind only Jaycee Magwood's five.
