Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Manitoba rolls to 7-1 win, weekend sweep over Cougars

The University of Manitoba scored two in the first period, three in the second, and added two more in the third as the Bisons collected a 7-1 win over the Regina Cougars on Friday night in a Canada West women's hockey game in Winnipeg.

Kylie Gavelin (pictured) scored the lone goal of the game for the Cougars, snapping home a shot to the short side off a Jaycee Magwood pass from behind the net with the Cougars on a power play. The goal was Gavelin's second of the season.

But Friday night was all Manitoba. Seven different Bisons all scored a goal apiece, with Caitlen Fyten assisting on three of them. Nicole Carswell, Venla Hovi, Erica Rieder, Taryn Kokesch, Alana Serhan, Sheridan Oswald, and Erin Kucheravy each found the back of the net for Manitoba. Rachel Dyck made 24 saves between the pipes to earn her fourth win of the season.

Jane Kish and Morgan Baker split the goaltending duties for the Cougars, who finished 1-for-4 on the power play. Manitoba was 2-for-4 with the man advantage.

Tied for fourth place in the Canada West standings with eight points, the Cougars (2-3-1) are back in action next weekend with a home-and-home against Saskatchewan. The teams play in Saskatoon on Friday night and at The Co-operators Centre in Regina on Saturday night (7:00).
