The University of Regina's women's basketball team led from wire to wire in a 62-41 win over Ryerson on Thursday night in both teams' first game at the Cougar Classic non-conference tournament at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.
The Cougars had a massive advantage in the post, scoring 44 points in the paint to Ryerson's 16 and outrebounding the Rams by a 56-29 margin.
Charlotte Kot had a game-high 17 points for the U of R in the win, while Kot and
Christina McCusker both tied for the team lead with eight rebounds.
Michaela Kleisinger hit both of her three-point attempts and added 10 points off the bench for the Cougars, who went with Kot, McCusker,
Katie Polischuk,
Avery Pearce, and rookie
Kyanna Giles as their starting five.
Sofia Paska and Savanna Hamilton both had eight points for Ryerson in the loss.
The Cougars, now 3-0 against CIS competition this year, continue the tournament tomorrow against provincial rival Saskatchewan. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at the CKHS.
