The University of Regina's women's basketball team used a big fourth-quarter run to pull ahead of Carleton, eventually ending up with a 66-59 win over the Ravens on Saturday at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.
The win gives the Cougar Classic title to host Regina, as the Cougars also scored wins over Ryerson and Saskatchewan on Thursday and Friday before Saturday's win over Carleton. The Cougars are now 5-0 against CIS competition so far in non-conference play.
Carleton led for much of Saturday's game and took a six-point lead into the fourth quarter, but the Cougars opened the final period with a 12-2 run capped by a big
Katie Polischuk three-pointer. That gave Regina its first lead since the first half, and the Cougars held onto the lead for the rest of the way.
Polischuk was 3-for-6 from three-point range and led all scorers with 16 points, while
Charlotte Kot scored 12 points and seven rebounds and
Kyanna Giles added 11 points and a team-leading eight rebounds in 26 minutes off the bench for the Cougars.
Heather Lindsay and Nicole Gilmore both had double-doubles for Carleton, which held a 50-39 rebounding advantage in the loss. Gilmore had 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Lindsay compiled 12 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.
The Cougars continue their non-conference schedule next weekend with a pair of games against Lethbridge. Game times are set for 4:30 p.m. on Friday and 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
