The University of Regina women's hockey team is at home for the final time in 2016 on the weekend, as the Cougars will play host to the last-place Calgary Dinos for a pair of games at The Co-operators Centre.
The Cougars (5-6-1-0) are coming off a pair of losses against the No. 1-ranked UBC Thunderbirds, as UBC took 4-1 and 3-2 wins in Vancouver on the weekend.
Kylie Gavelin scored the lone Cougar goal on Friday and
Jaycee Magwood scored once and assisted on a
Merissa Zerr goal on Saturday.
Magwood is tied for third in the conference scoring race with 12 points in as many games. The second-year forward's six goals and six assists are both tops among Cougar skaters. Gavelin is next on the list with nine points, followed by Kupper who has put up eight. Zerr (pictured) is the top rookie scorer for the Cougars, with six points to her credit.
Jane Kish has seen most of the action between the pipes for Regina, starting 10 of the team's 12 games. The second-year netminder has posted a 2.53 goals-against average and a .914 save percentage to go with two shutouts. Rookie
Morgan Baker has made four appearances, sporting a 2.52 GAA and an .870 save percentage.
Calgary occupies eighth place in Canada West with a 0-8-1-3 record. The Dinos were swept by Saskatchewan last weekend, dropping 5-3 and 2-0 decisions in Saskatoon. This weekend will be Calgary's sixth and seventh consecutive games on the road.
The Dinos have a conference-low 16 goals scored, with fourth-year forward Sasha Vafina leading the way with four. Chelsea Court has four points and seven other Calgary players have posted three points.
Kelsey Roberts and Hayley Dowling have split time in net for the Dinos, with Roberts making seven starts and Dowling making five. Both goalies are hovering around a 2.90 goals-against and a .900 save percentage.
The Cougars went 5-1 against the Dinos a season ago, including a two-game sweep in a Canada West quarterfinal at The Co-operators Centre.
