The University of Regina women's hockey team is ready to wrap up the 2016 potion of the Canada West schedule this weekend, as the Cougars travel to Lethbridge to take on the Pronghorns.
The Cougars (7-6-1-0) swept the Calgary Dinos on home ice a weekend ago, taking 3-2 and 4-2 victories at The Co-operators Centre.
Jaycee Magwood,
Kylie Gavelin and
Bailey Braden scored in Friday's win as
Morgan Baker earned her second win of the season in net. Magwood notched two goals and an assist on Saturday while Braden had a goal and two helpers. Gavelin also scored and
Kylee Kupper and
Alexis Larson had two assists apiece.
Magwood has taken sole possession of top spot in the Canada West scoring race after her big weekend, with nine goals and seven assists in 14 games. Gavelin is next among Cougars with 11 points while Kupper has 10 and Braden has nine. Rookie forward
Merissa Zerr is tied for fifth on the team with Larson with seven points.
Jane Kish has started 11 games in net for the Cougars and has put up a 2.47 goals-against average and a .912 save percentage. Baker has made three starts and sports numbers of 2.38 and .878.
Lethbridge is seventh in Canada West with a 2-9-1-2 record, and is currently amidst a six-game losing skid. MacKenzie Gal leads the team with six points in 14 contests, followed by Jodi Gentile, Sarah Spence and Jenae Culp who each have five.
Alicia Anderson has made 11 starts between the pipes for the Pronghorns and has faced a conference-high 469 shots, nearly 200 shots above Calgary's Kelsey Roberts who is next on the list at 287. Despite being peppered with shots, Anderson has posted a .921 save percentage to go with a 3.43 GAA.
The Cougars and Pronghorns met at The Co-operators Centre back in October, a series which saw both teams earn a 3-2 win. Anderson was busy as usual for Lethbridge, making 117 saves on 122 shots over the course of the two games.
